Another school year is coming to an end. And as many students graduate and move on, there are several new students entering into the school system. Whether you are new to town or you have a child entering kindergarten, new school years can be rough. And there are some things that you might not know. For example, how do you know which school you are zoned for? What bus stop should your child go to? How do you register your child for school? When should your child be at the bus stop? If you are a new parent, you have no idea where to begin. But not to worry, we have just the thing for you!
School zoning can be hard to figure out and if you haven't been living in Highlands County your whole life, it can be even harder to find out information. The following link lists all the schools in Highlands County, and by clicking on each school you are brought to a map with red zones clearly marked. Once you have the map on your screen you can zoom in and out easily to see where your child should be going to school in the upcoming school year.

Now that you've discovered what school your child is zoned for, now it's time to figure out transportation. Picking up and dropping off is easy enough, but what if your child needs to ride the bus. Even local Highlands County residents get a little lost when they get to this step. The School Board of Highlands County Transportation Department, thankfully, gives a list of all stops each bus makes for the school year and when the buses will be at the specified stop. By clicking the link below, you will be taken to the Transportation Departments website, scroll down, and you will see a section titled “Bus Routes” and underneath that you will see the links for the bus route lists. Also on the Transportation Departments website, there is a detailed list of all school zones based on address (just in case you didn't like the map version).

So, you've figured where your child is going to be going to school, and how they are going to get there. Now all we have to do is actually register your child. This is not common knowledge for most people, so it can be confusing at first. In order to register your child, you must go to the school that they will be attending. The link included down below is a link to the School Board's website and has all the schools in Highlands County listed including addresses and phone numbers.
