Social Byte - Instagram’s Newest Features

by: Tracy McCoy

Social Media has become a big part of our daily lives.

There are so many updates and changes every day that it can become tough to keep up with them all and stay relevant–so let's keep it simple.

Here are a few quick Social Byte on what's new on Instagram.

Did you know…
Released in December, you can now “follow” a hashtag the same way you would follow an account. Instagram’s algorithms will then pick and choose some of the highlights from that collection and surface them in your main feed. It’s a fundamental change to one of the largest social media platforms in the world, elevating your interest in #catsofinstagram or the #sebring12 to equal status with your friends and family.

Released this Month…
Instagram is keeping up with the ever evolving Snapchat with some of their newest features that were rolled out May, 2018.

  1. Post directly to your IG Sorry from other apps such as Spotify and GoPro!
  2. New Camera effects are now available. Third parties can now create cool camera effects that you can use in your stories. If you see a new effect in Stories from an account you follow and want to try it yourself, just tap “Try it on” and the tool will be added to your tray.
  3. Video Chat is coming! Just on the heels of Snapchat releasing the ability to video chat with up to 15 friends, Instagram is releasing a similar feature that is starting to roll out now. You can chat with a small group and you can keep the conversation going as long as you’d like.
